History

Interesting and unique petitions aren’t new and have a long and varied history starting with ancient Greece where petitions could be started to banish your fellow citizens for being disreputable or monopolizing your favorite harlot. Even in Colonial times citizens would petition to have someone declared a witch or ban wild animals from the town square on Sundays or have yourself declared a low level deity.

Fortunately, the internet has rushed in a new era of minimalist democracy. Email address tracking and low cost marketing make petitions a much more fun and unique way to spread your message. Variations such as facebook causes and groups make it possible to track real membership, not long is a tablet with a series of X’s sufficient to claim widespread support!  Warnings about such evils such as clowns, twinkies, jorts (shorts made of denim)  and boring literary novels can be spread at lightenting speed.
